Research Foci:
The Center for Research on Learning, and Teaching - North at the University of Michigan College of Engineering engages in multiple research projects with an education focus. A sampling of overarching research questions that guide our work include:
- What is the impact of consultations based on different kinds of data on the teaching performance of engineering faculty?
- How does a teamwork sketch affect students' perceptions of teamwork in an introductory engineering course?
- What are the commonalities and differences in the way in which engineering and non-engineering students develop ethical decision making skills?
- In what ways does enrollment in an applied honors course have a positive causal ipact on later educational achievement?
- What types of instructional technology best enhance student performance in an engineering course?
- How does introducing web-based technology in a large class lead to unexpected distractions that affect student learning?
The College is developing a certificate program for engineering doctoral students to lear more about research in engineering education.
