CASEE Research Affiliate: Department of Technology and Society, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Stony Brook University

Research Foci:

Our department uses a multidisiciplinary/transdisciplinary approach in conducting research involving a wide range of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educational issues. Our technology assessment / technologies studies approach starts with issues and from the outset treats them in an integrated "trans-disciplinary" fashion. Currently, this Science, Technology and Society (STS) approach is being used to address fundamental questions in a variety of areas:

  • Technology assessment of advanced and emerging technologies;
  • Planning and managing educational technologies;
  • Advanced technologies in STEM education;
  • Distance learning;
  • Innovative approaches to human-computer interfaces;
  • Use of wireless technologies in education; and
  • Participation of underrepresented minorities, women, and persons with disabilities in STEM education and careers.
