CPST is charged with collecting, analyzing and disseminating reliable information about the human resources of the United States in the fields of science and technology; promotion of the best possible programs of education and training for potential scientists, engineers, and technicians; and the development of policies for the utilization of scientific and technological human resources by educational institutions, industry and government for the optimum benefit to the nation.

National Center for Education Statistics
NCES is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data that are related to education in the United States and other nations.

National Science Foundation Division of Science Resources Statistics
SRS designs, supports, and directs about 14 periodic surveys as well as a variety of other data collections and research projects. These surveys yield the materials for SRS staff to compile, analyze, and disseminate quantitative information about domestic and international resources devoted to science, engineering, and technology.
