Challenges in Engineering Education:
We are currently discussing a number of challenges to engineering education, including the consequences of globalization, preparing students for 2020 and beyond, providing more independent and project-based learning experiences, and motivating more students to enter STEM fields. Some of the challenges in engineering and science education that we are currently addressing include the following:
- Continued development of integrated curricula and courses that focus on multidisciplinary problem solving.
- Development of effective assessment tools to evaluate long-term impact of new pedagogical techniques and problem-based learning.
- Further development of project-based learning to prepare students entering the engineering and science workforce for 2020 and beyond.
- Improved recruitment and retention of all students while increasing their problem-solving skills, technical ability, communication skills, and leadership potential.
