Robert J. Graves is John H. Krehbiel Sr. Professor of Emerging Technologies and director of the masters in engineering management program at Dartmouth College’s Thayer School of Engineering. He also holds an adjunct appointment in Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business Administration and is an emeritus research professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
At RPI he was a professor of decision sciences and engineering systems and director of the Electronics Agile Manufacturing Research Institute. He has led research in the areas of manufacturing systems, ship deck plan layout, shipbuilding, facilities planning, and information technologies, and is researching material handling system design and automated systems controls using agent-based technologies. In addition, he is a board member and chief technology officer of Ve-design, Inc., which commercializes patented technology developed in Web-based concurrent engineering, and a board member and CTO of Optimization Technologies, Inc. He holds two patents.
He is a fellow of IIE and SME, a member of INFORMS, and a senior member of IEEE. He received the David F. Baker Distinguished Research Award from IIE, the Reed-Apple Award from the Material Handling Education Foundation, and the RPI School of Engineering Outstanding Research Professor Award in 2003.
He holds a BSIE from Syracuse University and an MSIE and PhD from State University of New York at Buffalo.
