Biography

Verna M. Fitzsimmons is CEO of Kansas State University Salina and Dean of the College of Technology and Aviation (which houses the Engineering Technology programs as well as a Professional Master of Technology program). Prior to joining K-State Salina, Fitzsimmons was an associate professor in the College of Applied Engineering, Sustainability and Technology, at Kent State University and also served as Interim Dean for a year and a half. Fitzsimmons' background in academia includes teaching at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University, Wright State University's Lake Campus, and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Her industrial experience includes work as a process strategy coach for Kinetic Insights LLC in Columbus, Ohio, and as a resource management engineer, safety and regulatory engineer, and an international liaison engineer for companies such as General Electric, Kenner Toy Company (now Hasbro), and Ohmeda (Now GE Healthcare). Fitzsimmons has been published in peer-reviewed/refereed journals such as the International Journal of Modern Engineering and Technology Interface. She also has presented her work at ASEE and CIEC conferences across the country. She has been heavily involved with engineering technology (ET) curriculum for many years and is a strong supporter and advocate for ET both domestically and internationally. Her success in external fundraising includes a $10 million grant for student scholarships, the largest in K-State Salina history. Fitzsimmons earned bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree in industrial engineering, all from the University of Cincinnati.
