Shulamit Kahn is an Associate Professor at Boston University’s School of Management, where she has been since 1987. She received her Ph.D. from MIT in Economics in 1983. Prior to joining Boston University, she taught at the University of California, Irvine. She has held visiting appointments at MIT, University College London, and the University of New South Wales. Dr. Kahn has published articles in the American Economic Review, the Journal of Economic Perspectives, the Review of Economics and Statistics and other economics journals and scholarly volumes. Her recent research has been on the careers of scientists. Topics of her recent papers include the impact of foreign students studying in the US on international scientific production and diffusion, the role of postdoctorate education in biomedical careers, gender and racial differences in careers of the highly educated in STEM fields, scientific entrepreneurship, and the effectiveness of human resource policies to encourage women’s promotion within academia. Dr. Kahn has received recent research grants from the National Science Foundation and from the National Institutes of Health and has consulted for private firms, the Department of Labor and the National Academies of Science.
