You are invited to apply to attend a national symposium on the Future of Center-Based, Multidisciplinary Engineering Research, to kick off a new study by the National Academy of Engineering and the National Materials and Manufacturing Board. Sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the project will develop a twenty-year vision, with high-level, strategic recommendations, for the future of center-scale, multidisciplinary engineering research that is responsive to globalization and the accelerating pace of innovation, new approaches to engineering education, and new modes of interaction between universities and industry.
This one-day event is intended to engage the broader engineering community in the study. It will include four plenary panel presentations on the following topics:
In addition to the panels, the symposium will feature smaller breakout working groups designed to elicit a broad range of ideas from the attendees. More information is available on the project website.
If you have questions about logistics, please contact Joe Palmer (jpalmer@nas.edu). Questions about the symposium content should be directed to Greg Eyring (geyring@nas.edu). A webcast of the panel sessions will be available on this webpage.
