Arthur C. Heinricher joined the faculty at WPI in 1992 and has been dean of undergraduate studies since 2008. In this capacity he is responsible for the assessment and improvement of undergraduate programs and curriculum. He also serves on the steering committee for WPI’s Institute on Project-Based Learning; was a founding member and associate director and director for the WPI Center for Industrial Mathematics and Statistics; and helped organize WPI’s Research Experience for Undergraduates in Industrial Mathematics and Statistics.
As a professor of mathematical sciences Dr. Heinricher helped lead innovations such as undergraduate peer learning assistants to support team projects in introductory courses and a unified calculus-physics-humanities learning community for interdisciplinary projects. He has advised more than 100 WPI students on more than 30 mathematics projects sponsored by business and industry. Those projects provide the raw material for many outreach programs, including Mathematics in Industry Institutes for High School Teachers and the Mathematics Research Expos developed in partnership with Boston University and five Boston-area school districts.
He earned a BS in applied mathematics from the University of Missouri–St. Louis and a PhD in mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University.
