Anchor Lede: A remake of the popular 1980s T-V show MacGyver is new on C-B-S this fall. Its creator says the show is about a hero whose superpower is his brain.
Randy Atkins: MacGyver always figured his way out of impossible situations by creatively improvising using things available to him.
Peter Lenkov: He was a cerebral hero. Didn’t need a weapon. If he needed a weapon, he’d make one.
Randy Atkins: Peter Lenkov, executive producer of the MacGyver re-make, says the original show inspired people – including him – to look at the world around them in different ways…and see new possibilities.
Peter Lenkov: I’m hoping the new version does the same thing and inspires people to think about engineering, think about building, using their hands and their brains to maybe make a difference.
Randy Atkins: Lenkov says, sure, he wants the show to be entertaining…but, deep down, he’s also wants to motivate people’s inner-MacGyver to solve real-world problems. With the National Academy of Engineering, Randy Atkins, WTOP News.
