Saturday, October 8: NAE orientation for the Class of 2016.

Sunday, October 9: NAE Chair Gordon R. England will give opening remarks, followed by the president’s address and then the induction of 80 new members and 22 foreign members who were elected in February. We will present the Simon Ramo Founders Award, the Arthur M. Bueche Award, and the Bernard M. Gordon Prize Lecture. We will also show the winning videos from the Engineering for You (E4U3) video competition and present the winners with their awards. A very special award will be presented for all to appreciate and enjoy.

The afternoon program will feature three plenary lectures that illuminate mega-engineering in diverse areas: space, particle physics, and the environment. Gwynne Shotwell, president and COO of SpaceX, will talk about the company’s vision for a Mars mission. Rolf-Dieter Heuer, former general director of CERN, will discuss the remarkable engineering required throughout the Large Hadron Collider mission and responsible for its ultimate great success. And Robert Nicholls, professor of coastal engineering at Southampton University, will speak on engineering adaptation to sea level rise throughout the world, setting the stage for the forum Monday morning.

Monday, October 10: The NAE business session will be followed by the forum, where an expert panel will discuss Adaptation to Sea Level Rise from different global perspectives.
