Brandon Hernandez teaches Engineering Design and Robotics for the Engineering Academy at Olathe Northwest High School in Olathe, KS. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Math Education and Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He spent the first six years of teaching as a math teacher at Lawrence Free State High School teaching a variety of courses from Algebra 1 to Advanced Placement Calculus AB. During that time, he started FIRST Robotics Team 5119 which reconnected him to his interest in engineering. In 2014 at Olathe Northwest he began utilizing FIRST Tech Challenge as the framework for the first semester robotics portion of the curriculum, coaching a total of nine teams. Since taking this role, Brandon became involved in the K-12 engineering space through the American Society of Engineering Education and FIRST. In 2016 he was selected for the Woodie Flowers Award at the Kansas City FIRST Robotics Regional competition.
