Dr. Ahuja is a Regents Professor in the School of Aerospace Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, USA) where he teaches graduate level courses in aeroacoustics and a Regents Researcher in Georgia Tech’ applied Research arm Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) where he heads Aerospace & Acoustics Technologies Division. From 2007 to 2009, he spent two years in Ireland as the founding director and general manager of Georgia Tech Ireland and set up a research campus in Athlone.
Dr. Ahuja started his engineering career as an apprentice at Rolls Royce, Ltd., Derby and has over 45 years of research and development experience in aircraft noise research, acoustics facilities design, flow control, state-of-the-art instrumentation, and advanced signal processing. During his employment of 13 years at Lockheed Georgia Company in various capacities, including the head of the Aeroacoustics Research and manager of the Advanced Flight Sciences Department, he was the principal investigator and/or the program manager on several successfully completed projects funded by Lockheed, the U. S. Air Force and NASA. His current research interests are: quieting aircraft, acoustic liners, Infrasound, UAV noise, rotor noise, community noise, jet noise, design of quiet wind tunnels and engine test cells, flow control, thermoacoustics, automobile noise, effect of noise on sleep, and innovative application of acoustics to consumer market, and rocket noise. He recently led an $8M program for Space Missile Center on Combustion Instability of rocket combustors and is leading another $2.7 M program on jet noise for ONR. He is also leading a strategic IRAD project at GTRI on the topic of producing and measuring Infrasound. He is a former associate editor of AIAA Journal, has appeared at congressional hearings on noise issues, and his work has appeared on CNN and the national media. Ahuja has authored/co-authored over 180 publications in the field of acoustics. The awards won by Dr. Ahuja include:
