This study considers approaches for assessing technological literacy in teachers, students, and out-of-school adults.
One-day symposium for state education leaders in mathematics, science, assessment, and curriculum to learn about and discuss technological literacy.
This one-day symposium brought together state education leaders in mathematics, science, assessment, and curriculum to learn about and discuss the issue of technological literacy. The event challenged participants to think more broadly about technology - as more than just the use of computers in classrooms - and to consider how the teaching of technology and engineering and design concepts in K-12 classrooms can inspire greater student interest and achievement.
The symposium is one of several high-priority projects funded directly from the Office of the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Education. It continued a series of initiatives by The National Academies to promote technological literacy and improve teaching and learning in U.S. elementary and secondary schools. One such initiative resulted in the 2002 publication of Technically Speaking: Why All Americans Need to Know More About Technology, which was provided as background reading to all invitees.
