Cara Cowan Watts is the CEO and Majority Owner of Tulsa Pier Drilling, LLC. She oversees drilling services and manages a team of approximately 20 full-time and part-time employees.  She is also the founder and owner of Cherokee Star DBA which provides facilitation, project management, communication planning, innovative education solutions, and presentation development in Indian Country.  Watts served as the elected Tribal legislator for portions of Tulsa and Rogers Counties, Oklahoma for 12 years from 2003 to 2015. She is a Louis Stokes National Science Foundation Fellow and former twice elected member of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) Board of Directors. Since 2017, she has served as President of the Oklahoma Professional Chapter. In 2020, Watts was awarded the highest AISES award, the Ely S. Parker Award to recognize Indian leaders who most clearly embody AISES’ mission and goals through their achievements and contributions to science, technology, engineering, and math.  Watts has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Science in Telecommunications Management, and a PhD in Biosystems Engineering from Oklahoma State University.
