Engineering: Touching Every Corner of Our Lives

Engineering is all around us—from the cars we drive to the space shuttles that take us to the moon, from the lightbulbs that illuminate our world to the telescopes that help us see new worlds, from the appliances that cook our food to the crops that provide that food. Roads, bridges, buildings, cars, planes, phones, computers, appliances, medical equipment… the contributions—and the possibilities—of engineering are endless!
Engineering is present in every corner of our lives, contributing to our well-being, boosting our economy, and informing continued innovation.
The 2023 NAE National Meeting explores myriad ways engineering is improving our lives.
Four outstanding young engineers will showcase their work as part of the prestigious Gilbreth Lecture Series:
The 2023 Gilbreth Lecture speakers are selected from among presenters at The Grainger Foundation Frontiers of Engineering symposia. Established in 2001 by the NAE Council to recognize outstanding young engineers and showcase their work to wider audiences, the Gilbreth Lectures honor Lillian M. Gilbreth (1878–1972), a pioneer of industrial and management engineering and the first woman elected to the National Academy of Engineering (1965).
NAE is again working with Cabrillo High School in Long Beach, Samueli Academy in Santa Ana, and University of California, Irvine (UCI) to identify high school students as well as recent UCI entrants who are interested in careers in engineering or science. Approximately 200 students are expected to attend the program.
