Robert Hoffman is President and Chief Creative Officer of Gearon Hoffman, Inc., an advertising and marketing firm based in Boston, Massachusetts. Bob’s father was a Marine aviator and professional engineer and his mother was a professional actress. Perhaps it was inevitable that Bob would pursue a career that combined business discipline with creative problem solving. Starting as a copywriter in New York, he later held creative marketing positions with CBS Records (Bruce Springsteen, Santana, Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Elvis Costello) and the CBS Musical Instruments division (Fender guitars, Rogers drums, Rhodes pianos, and ARP synthesizers). After several years of domestic and international marketing efforts within the music industry, Bob teamed with business associate Dan Gearon to found their eponymous firm in 1982. Today, Boston-based Gearon Hoffman is a $100 million advertising and marketing firm with a professional staff of 40 and a roster of clients representing a broad range of consumer and business-to-business products and services. The firm has achieved national notoriety for many of the brands it has represented over the years. Some of Gearon Hoffman’s most notable and successful clients include Samuel Adams beer, Rockport footwear, Scottrade online brokers, Keds footwear, The New York Daily News, Prudential Retirement Services, Omni Hotels, The Massachusetts General Hospital, Grolsch beer, the Brown & Company discount brokerage division of J. P. Morgan Chase & Co., and Boston’s Museum of Science. Gearon Hoffman has also worked with a number of academic institutions, including Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Simmons College, Berklee College of Music, and The New England Conservatory of Music. A student of human behavior, Bob’s sensitivity to what drives consumers to act is a critical aspect of Gearon Hoffman’s approach to advertising. As a writer, strategist, and creative director, Bob explores the emotional links that connect consumers with brands. The result is a consistent, emotionally powerful, highly effective creative product that changes or enhances consumer perception. Bob is also a musician, so he knows how to play with others. He has a BA degree in English from Antioch College and pursued graduate studies in communication at the University of Pennsylvania.
