Randy Atkins:  If there’s a pandemic flu, how long will you have to wait among potentially infected people at a vaccination center?

Jeffrey Herrmann:  It could be a real problem if they haven’t carefully thought about the capacity and congestion that can occur in such clinics.

Randy Atkins:  Jeffrey Herrmann is a University of Maryland engineer.  He led engineering of software that takes in data like number of staff and available space, then suggests clinic strategies…

Jeffrey Herrmann:  That will lead to less waiting, less queuing, less chaos, less congestion if you should have to go get a vaccination.

Randy Atkins:  The CDC is encouraging counties nationwide to use Herrmann’s software.  With the National Academy of Engineering, Randy Atkins, WTOP Radio.

Health workers anywhere in the world can download the software program for free.  To find out more about this story, go to wtopnews.com and click on “Innovative Engineering” under "Quick Links" at the very bottom of the page.
