The National Weather Service is now "upping the ante" with a computer upgraded to run almost three times faster than the one used during our last snow storm. Louis Uccellini says their new super-computer is already receiving vast amounts of data sent by weather measuring technologies deployed from ground to space.  Dr. Uccellini says the laws of physics are used to convert those numbers, at faster than a trillion calculations a second, to more precise, longer-range prediction models.  But he adds that public expectations of forecast accuracy are probably increasing just as fast.  With the National Academy of Engineering, Randy Atkins, WTOP Radio.
