Randy Atkins:  Video is being analyzed using software developed at the University of Maryland.  Engineer Rama Chellappa says it recognizes subtle walking styles.

Rama Chellappa:  It will learn how you walk, how you move your legs and arms and the hip and the neck and things like that.

Randy Atkins:  Even if the system hasn’t seen a suspect before, Chellapa says it can tell, from a distance, if he might be carrying a concealed object.

Rama Chellappa:  We can actually determine whether the person is walking a little differently from a normal walking model.  And that may provide a clue.
