Dr. Susan Hubbard is a Senior Scientist and Associate Lab Director for the Earth and Environmental Sciences Area of Berkeley Laboratory. She is also an Adjunct Faculty at UC Berkeley.
Susan’s research focuses on quantifying terrestrial system dynamics, with a particular emphasis on the development of geophysical approaches to provide insights about how hydrological, geochemical and biological processes interact and influence water availability, water quality, carbon cycling, agriculture and subsurface system behaviors.
She earned her PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley, her MS in Geophysics, and her BS in Geology. Prior joining Berkeley Lab, she was a geologist at the US Geological Survey in Menlo Park CA and a geophysicist in industry.
In addition to being a member of the National Academy of Engineering, Dr. Hubbard has also been recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Fellow of AGU, a Fellow of GSA, and a recipient of a number of awards from SEG. Susan has served a number of roles on scientific advisory boards, editorial boards, and for professional societies. She is currently the Chair-Elect of the Hydrosphere and Atmosphere section of AAAS.
