2018 NAE-AAES Convocation and AAES General Assembly Meeting

Many areas of modern life involve digital interactions, and cybersecurity is critical to ensure that these interactions are reliable and secure so as not to disrupt whole segments of society. The convocation’s first session, “Cybersecurity – Challenges for the Engineering Profession and Society,” will explore aspects of cybersecurity related to blockchain technology, the Internet of Things, policy, and critical infrastructure, to understand current state-of-the-art practices, future possibilities, and impacts on engineers working in these areas. The second session, “Enhancing the Resilience of the Nation’s Electricity System,” will focus on efforts to identify, develop, and implement strategies to increase the resilience of the power system. Resilience is not just about lessening the likelihood of major blackouts that extend over multiple service areas and last several days or longer. It is also about limiting their scope and impact when they do occur, restoring power rapidly afterward, and learning from these experiences to better deal with events in the future.

The webcast will begin at 8:15 AM EDT on Monday, April 23rd. For additional information, please contact Deborah Young at DYoung@nae.edu.
