The engineering profession, including industry, academia, government, and professional associations, acknowledges and respects the value of both a diverse workforce and an inclusive community in which all individuals feel valued and respected and have equitable access to opportunities. However, a diverse workforce and inclusive culture remain persistent challenges for engineering workplaces. The 2019 NAE Convocation of Professional Engineering Societies explored research on culture, patterns of disadvantage and inequity, career self-efficacy and outcome expectations, universal design, and other related topics. Panelists also presented and discussed effective practices that both promote an inclusive, welcoming culture and support a diverse engineering workforce.
