The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) congratulates 153 students for graduating from the NAE Grand Challenge Scholars Program in 2018. The students are receiving diplomas from Arizona State University, Australian National University, Bucknell University, City University of Hong Kong, Duke University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Lafayette College, Louisiana Tech University, National University of Singapore, North Carolina State University, Ohio State University, Olin College of Engineering, Saint Louis University, Texas A&M University, University of Bridgeport, University of Iowa, University of Maryland, Baltimore County, University of North Dakota, University of Rochester, University of Southern California, University of Tennessee, West Virginia University, Western New England University, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
The NAE Grand Challenge Scholars Program stemmed from the 14 NAE Grand Challenges for Engineering. It is a combined cocurricular and extra-curricular program designed to prepare students to tackle these goals that could dramatically improve quality of life around the world. In 2009, leaders from Duke University’s Pratt School of Engineering, the Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering, and the University of Southern California’s Viterbi School of Engineering proposed this new education model.

The mission of the National Academy of Engineering is to advance the well-being of the nation by promoting a vibrant engineering profession and by marshalling the expertise and insights of eminent engineers to provide independent advice to the federal government on matters involving engineering and technology. The NAE is part of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine -- private, nonprofit institutions that provide science, technology, and health policy advice under a congressional charter.
